John Wesley Welty, 86, of Sweet Home passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023. He was born in Portland on June 21, 1937 to Harvey A. and Eva M. (Rowley) Welty. John served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1963. He lived in various places including Florence and Florida and then moved back to Oregon and settled in Sweet Home in 1980. He was in the logging industry, was a draftsman, then became a log truck owner and operator here in Sweet Home. John enjoyed fishing and hunting, he was very handy and was a “John” of all trades.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeannette “Eddi” of Sweet Home; daughter, Vicki and son-in-law Michael Sele of Sweet Home; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Jonna Jobbitt (2016) and brother Ivan Welty.
