John Ed Gaskey, 78, of Sweet Home passed away Thursday. He was born in Wright City, Oklahoma to Delbert Jesse and Frances (Parker) Gaskey.
His family came to Sweet Home in 1948. John graduated from Sweet Home High School where he excelled in sports, especially wrestling, placing 3rd in state as a freshman and state championships as a Sophomore and a Senior. He lived in Oregon until 1980, when he moved to California until 1993. He moved to Oregon and lived in Redmond, Ontario and Prineville before returning to Sweet Home in May 2022 to be close to family after his wife, Lezlie passed away.
John worked as a journeyman lineman for Henkels and McCoy as a superintendent running crews on jobs all over California. He loved fishing and camping especially at the Snake River with his cousins.
He is survived by his daughters Justine L. Coordt of Raymond, Washington and Sarah J. Afana of New York, NY; sisters: Charlene and her husband Rich Adams and Brenda and her husband Ervin Dirks both of Sweet Home; many nieces, nephews and cousins in Oregon and Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his wife Lezlie in 2022; father, Delbert Gaskey in 2005 and mother, Frances Hughes in 2020.
