Jerald D. “Jerry” Underwood, 68, of Sweet Home passed away Monday. He was born in Vancouver, Washington to Jerald and Leona (Gukeisen) Underwood.

He worked for Willamette Industries/ Weyerhaeuser for over 40 years. After a seven year retirement, he returned to work for Hoy’s Hardware where he served as an assistant manager. He was a member or the Sweet Home Mennonite Church.

Jerald loved being with his grandchildren, taking long drives in the forest, and listening to audio books. He enjoyed gardening, travel, and golf.

Jerald is survived by: his wife, Vicki of Sweet Home; son, Ryan (and his wife, Paula) Underwood of Sweet Home; daughters, Shelley (and her husband, Eric) Hurbain, Dana (and her husband, Scott Taylor) — all of Reno, Nevada; stepsons, Jeff (and his wife, Patti) Miller of Sweet Home and Scott (and his wife, Carrieann) Miller of Washington; brother, Leland (and his wife, Barbara) Underwood of Springfield; sister, Gloria (and her husband, Jim “Sonny”) Carter of Sweet Home; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Sweet Home Mennonite Church. Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
