Skip Stock, 67, of Sweet Home, passed away Saturday at his home. Born in Lebanon, the son of James E. and Frances K. (Morris) Stock, Skip was raised in Sweet Home graduating from Sweet Home High School in 1963. In 1967, he graduated from Northwest Christian College in Eugene and earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Oregon in 1968.

Skip married Sylvia Del Dornhecker on August 12, 1967 in Portland, OR. In 1968, they moved to Santa Ana, CA where Skip was Associate Minister at Santa Ana First Christian Church. While in California, Skip developed his love for flying airplanes, became a licensed pilot and served two terms as chairman of the Orange County Airport Commission. In 1974, the Stock family returned to Sweet Home, Oregon where Skip rejoined the family lumber business and remained a part of the industry until the time of his death. Skip had also served on the board of Holt International Children’s Services for more than 12 years.

Skip developed many hobbies over his lifetime. Many of them were centered around creating opportunities and access to spending time with friends and family. Besides being a licensed pilot, he enjoyed golf, and had a love for reading with an extensive library, Skip and his wife, Sylvia, loved traveling in their motor home throughout the western United States and Canada. After his diagnosis of melanoma cancer in 2003, and while undergoing cancer treatments, Skip began riding motorcycles and took extensive rides across the United States, into Canada, Alaska and Baja.

Skip is survived by his wife, Sylvia Dornhecker Stock of Sweet Home, sons James and wife Kirsten, Matthew and wife, Melissa, and Joel and wife, Barbara, all of Eugene. His daughters, Molly and husband, Jordan Barich of Newberg, OR and daughter, Jessica Stock of Portland, OR. He has four grandchildren, James, Hannah, Liam and Shea all of Eugene. Skip is also survived by his mother, Frances Stock of Sweet Home, brothers Ted and wife Rogene of Sweet Home, Nat of San Diego, CA and Jon of Eugene, OR, and sister Janice and husband, Jerry Powell of Lake Oswego, OR. He has many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Stock.

A celebration of life will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday October 28, at Northwest Christian University Morse Event Center, Alder and East 11th Ave, Eugene, OR. A private interment will be held at Gilliland Cemetery, Sweet Home, OR. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northwest Christian University scholarship fund in honor of James F. Stock or the Riverside Christian Church Missions Fund, Sweet Home, Oregon.
