James Roy Arthur, Sr., 87 of Sweet Home passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024. He was born November 2, 1936, to Ernest Elmer and Blanche Caroline (Trento) Arthur in Alfalfa, Oregon.

He received an honorable discharge after serving in the Army from 1959 to 1961. He spent time in Germany while in the Army.

James lived in Sweet Home all of his life except when he was in the military. He worked at Willamette Industries Foster Division for 42 years. He worked on the pond pushing blocks and then went to the chop saw.

He loved to go on top of the mountain to pick huckleberries. He liked to hunt, fish and go camping at the desert. He enjoyed planting tomatoes and potatoes in his garden.

James is survived by his wife Agnes Arthur; children: Tamara (Thomas) Connor of Sutherlin, James Arthur Jr of Sweet Home, Aaron (Michele) Arthur of Springfield; step children; Richard Leland of Sweet Home, Dawn (Dave) McKuhn of Siletz, Cindy Leland of Eugene; nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Blanche Arthur; sister Juanita; brother in law Chuck; and brother Bud Arthur.

Celebration of life with military honors will be 1 pm Saturday, September 28th at Shotgun Creek Recreational site. Potluck gathering will follow. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.
