Gordon Grady Barnes, 89, of Sweet Home passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024. He was born October 7, 1934 to William T. and Mary M. (Thorpe) Barnes in Idabel, Oklahoma.

Gordon resided in Oklahoma until he was 12 when the family moved to Oregon. He returned to Oklahoma for a short time until returning to Lebanon and eventually back to Sweet Home until his death.

Gordon was a 1953 graduate of Lebanon Union High School. He held miscellaneous jobs until 1963 when his long career at Pacific Power began. He retired as an equipment operator at age 62.

His hobbies included bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing. He was also an accomplished cartoonist who gifted friends and family with cartoons on birthday card envelopes. He was an avid fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and Oregon State Beavers.

Gordon is survived by his wife Gayle of Sweet Home; his son Scott (Christine) Barnes of Sweet Home, daughters: Joan (Rick) Funk of Lebanon, Sandra Cline of Surprise, Arizona; son Robert (Debe) of Warrenton, Oregon, daughter Laura Pettit (Dan Renton) of Yacolt, Washington; 13 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary (Thorpe) Barnes; sister: Betty June; brother Bill and great grandson Kade Pettit.

Funeral service will be 11 am Monday July 1st at Sweet Home Evangelical Church. Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery. Donations can be made to Evergreen Hospice, 4600 Evergreen Pl. SE.
