A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Sweet Home United Methodist Church. Private burial will take place at Gilliland Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Genevieve’s memory to the United Methodist Church or East Linn Museum.
Genevieve Lila Rice, 100, of Sweet Home passed away Sunday. She was the daughter of William Henry and Clara (Story) Daugherty.
She was born, raised and lived in Sweet Home her entire life. She enjoyed the staff and people at Wiley Creek Community for the last four years.
Genevieve married James “Lynn” Rice November 27, 1930. They spent the 75 years of their married life in Sweet Home.
She was very involved in Girl Scouts as a leader and trainer. Genevieve was also active at the Scout Council for a total of 35 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church.
Genevieve loved all kinds of hand work: crocheting; knitting; quilting; sewing; and gardening. One of the projects she especially enjoyed was making teddy bears for the E.M.T.’s to give to the sick or injured children they were transporting.
She is survived by: children, Lila (and her husband, Bob) Stepanek of Medford, Kathleen Rice of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jim Rice of Portland; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, James “Lynn” Rice, and a brother and sister.
