Gay Dean Miller, 72, of Sweet Home passed away Tuesday. She was born in Blythville, Arkansas to William Clay and Martha Elizabeth (Brown) LaShot.
Her family came west when she was two years old and settled in Creswell. They then moved to Walterville, Oregon where her dad built a home for the family. She lived there until her marriage on March 23, 1956 at Thurston Christian Church. Gay and her husband lived in Springfield, Pleasant Hill, Coburg, La Pine, and finally to Sweet Home in 2004.
Gay attended churches in the areas they lived, including Thurston Christian Church, High Lakes Christian Church, La Pine, and then Sweet Home Baptist Church.
She spent her life raising her children and grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She loved sewing crocheting and cooking. Gay won many ribbons in 4-H for her cooking and sewing. Everyone in the family loved her homemade rolls and bread. She was always cooking for everyone. She enjoyed word searches, puzzles, yahtzee, and pinochle. She played many hours of pinochle with family and friends.
Gay is survived by: her husband, James Donald Miller of Sweet Home; children, James and his wife Deliene Miller of Monroe, Michael and his wife Tanya Miller of Springfield, Lori and her husband Brian McFarlane of La Pine, Toby and his wife Sumei Miller of Newport, Jennifer and her husband Scott Blue of Marietta, Georgia, and Zachary Miller of Sweet Home; siblings, Jerry LaShot of Creswell, June Yow of La Pine, Dub LaShot of Walterville, Lynn Denton of Lake Oswego, and Jack LaShot of Kenai, Alaska;, 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Martha La Shot.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Friday, December 3, at Sweet Home Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
