A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 11, at the Sweet Home Community Chapel; 42250 Ames Creek Road, Sweet Home. Clair’s urn will be placed at Gilliland Cemetery immediately following the memorial service, for those who would like to attend.

Eugene “Clair” McIntyre, 95, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Clair was born in Clatskanie, Oregon and was the son of William Earl and Bernice Marion McIntyre. After graduating high school, Clair enlisted in the United States Navy at 19 years of age and served from 1942 to 1945 as an Electrician’s Mate on the USS Mississippi. During this time, Clair married Irene Ryding, and they had one child named Cindy.

After his military service, Clair moved to Sweet Home, where he worked with his parents, running the Tourist Cafe. Here, Clair met his wife, Bonnie Elizabeth Meacham, marrying her in 1948 and having five children. He then took a job with Epps Furniture Store, where he acted as the General Manager until his retirement.

Clair was active in the Lion’s Club and the Elks Lodge and had countless friends in the Sweet Home community. After the death of his wife, Bonnie, in 1973, Clair married Esther “Mickey” Freeman in 1991.They enjoyed retired life by golfing, reading, walking, and spending winters in Arizona. Clair loved sharing family stories and having happy hour with his friends.

Clair is survived by his sons, Michael McIntyre (Deborah) of Milton, Florida and Patrick McIntyre (Elaine) of Sparks, Nevada; daughters Claire Jean Henthorne (Sam, deceased) of Foster, Oregon and Cindy Nelson (Dale, deceased) of Lincoln City, Oregon; and stepchildren Cheryl Stone, Raymond Smith, Nyla Howell, Mike Freeman, and Jeff Freeman. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his close companion, Maxine Martin.

Clair was preceded in death by his only sister, Veva Hytinen, in 1954; his youngest daughter, Bonnie Colleen, in 1955; his wife, Bonnie, in 1973; his wife, Mickey, in 2010; and his eldest son, William “Mac” McIntyre (Tracy), in August 2017.

We would like to encourage any who would like to, to write down stories of how they met Clair or things they did; adventures, fun times, memories, etc. We plan to compile them to share with all who would like them, so please include contact information; address, phone, and email address. You will also have an opportunity to share a little something about him at the service, if you like.
