Eleanor E. Mathews, 66, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Sunday, July 5. She was born in Bakersfield, California to Ronnie and Beatrice (Jones) Dean.

She was a traveler and lived in many places: Bakersfield, Paso Robles, and San Jose, California; Honolulu, Hawaii; Fort Worth, Texas; and then to beautiful Sweet Home where she made her home.

Eleanor worked many jobs, but one job that she really liked was at the Rio Theater many years ago. She always did a great job being a grandma!

She loved Bingo. Casino’s were a fun past-time when she could go. She could bake many wonderful desserts and loved making strawberry marshmallow pie and pecan pie with her granddaughter, Megan. She always loved cooking!

Eleanor is survived by: her son, Bert K. Kaniaupio, Jr.; daughters, Elizabeth U. Kaniaupio-Gowen (Terry Gowen) and Morning Star Kyriss; sister, Ola Morris; brother, Howard Griffith; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Don Mathews; son, Jeremiah K. Kaniaupio; and sister, Dorothy Dean.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the VFW in Sweet Home.
