Beloved Dourthea Mae Oar, 93, peacefully passed away in her home in Crawfordsville on June 15, 2023. She was born on September 2, 1929, in Flagler, Colorado to parents Sterling Morton and Pauline Bell (Dine) Edwards.
Throughout her life, Dourthea’s journey took her from Flagler, Colorado to Payette, Idaho in 1935, to Hillsboro, Oregon in 1943, and ultimately to Sweet Home. Remarkably, she obtained her high school diploma at the young age of 16 while attending night school.

On March 16, 1947, she tied the knot with her beloved Ernest Floyd Oar. At the time, she was working for the government at the War Assets Administration in Portland. Shortly after their marriage, they settled in Sweet Home, where Dourthea briefly worked at White’s Restaurant. In July 1948, they made a home at Gilbert’s Logging Camp, residing there for a few years until they purchased property on Crawfordsville Drive, which was home for Dourthea the remaining years of her life.
Dourthea dedicated many years of her life working at Walker’s Nursery, before deciding to further her education at Linn Benton Community College in 1969. Following her studies, she was hired by American Can Company, where she enjoyed a fulfilling career until her retirement.

However, Dourthea’s true joy came from her deep love and unwavering support for her siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She found her ultimate happiness in lifting others up and celebrating their triumphs. Dourthea was a friend, mother figure, or “Grandma” to nearly everyone she knew.

In 1950, when her father passed away, Dourthea selflessly stepped in to help raise her ten brothers and sisters.

Dourthea’s legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren. She is survived by three children: Floyd Oar and his wife Cindy, Judy Taylor and her husband Danial, and Bob Oar and his wife Margaret. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, her cherished brother Floyd Edwards of Shawnee, Oklahoma, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, carry on her memory.
