Viewing will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Private internment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the VFW and AMVET Ladies Auxiliary.
Corinne Fritts, 83, of Sweet Home passed away Friday at Shinning Light Adult Foster Care in Crawfordsville with her husband by her side. She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to Jerry and Vesta Ena (Harris) Fontaine. She was of Mohegan Native American Ancestry.
She attended school in Canterbury, Connecticut. Corinne spent many of her childhood years on a small farm outside Canterbury and was no stranger to hard work.
Corinne was working at Bayuk Cigar Manufacturing when she met her husband Marion. They were married February 20, 1960 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She traveled with him as his Naval career dictated to such places as: Guam; Bermuda; Winter Harbor, Maine; Fallon, Nevada; and homeports of his ships, Long Beach and San Diego, California. After her husband’s retirement from the United States Navy in 1975, they moved to the Crawfordsville area.
Corinne excelled in all elected and appointed offices held in both the VFW Post 3437 and District 14 Ladies Auxiliaries. Corinne held the office of President of VFW District 14 Ladies Auxiliary and received President of the Year Award from the Department of Oregon Ladies Auxiliary for 1983-1984. Corinne also served many years on the VFW Convention Committee. She was also State President of the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary for 1990-1991 and has been the recipient of numerous awards and citations throughout the years of her association in both Ladies Auxiliaries.
She enjoyed a couple of trips cross country to visit relatives. She loved camping at the coast and in Eastern Oregon.
Corinne is survived byf: her husband of 51 years, Marion Fritts of Sweet Home; sisters, Geraldine Daniels of Levittown, Pennsylvania and Charlotte Pepin of Canterbury, Connecticut; brothers, Jerry Fontaine, Jr., of Moosup, Connecticut and Frederick Fontain of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; niece, Donna Wheeler of Levittown, Pennsylvania; nephews, Robert Stevenson of Levittown, Pennsylvania and James Stevenson of San Antonio, Texas; and grandson, Mark Beauchesne of Panama City, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Morris, and her parents.
