Viewing will be 3-5pm Friday September 11th at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Graveside service with military honors will be 11 am Saturday September 12th at Gilliland Cemetery.Celebration of Life with light lunch will be at noon on Saturday after the graveside at the Sweet Home VFW Park. Memorial contributions can be made in Bruce’s name to Shriners or Sweet Home VFW.
Bruce Warner Procknow, 90, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2020. He was born on April 8, 1930 in Helena, Montana the son of George W. and Grace Melissa (Pickens) Procknow. He moved to Sweet Home in 1947. He was inducted into the United States Navy October 11, 1948 and was Honorably discharged October 2, 1952. He served aboard the USS Boxer cv21, one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers of the United States Navy. Earning the Navy Occupation Korea Service, United Nation, and Good Conduct medals.
Outside the Navy Bruce worked for Willamette Industries in Sweet Home until retirement. He was a member of VFW, AmVets, American Legion and Cooties; as well as Shriners, and Masons, serving as Master of Masonic Lodge for 1 year. Bruce enjoyed Big Band music, boating, and swimming. He has been known to swim across Foster Lake in the past.
He is survived by his wife, Bette (Briggs) Procknow; sons: Donald and his wife Vickie Procknow of Sweet Home, Keith and his wife Dawn Procknow of Woodland, Washington, Steve Howard of Sweet Home; daughters: Sandra and her husband Anthony Davis of Edmonds, Washington, Barbara and her husband Tom Hanten of Lebanon; sisters: Deanna of Washington and Gloria of Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and ex-wife, mother of Donald and Keith, Sharon (Norton) Tarabochia (2016).
