Betty Lula May Poteet, 86, of Sweet Home passed away Sunday. She was born in Rogers, Arkansas to Adolphus Frank and Frances M. (Bogart) Herndon.

Betty graduated from Visalia High School. She lived in Kansas unitl 1938 when she moved to California. Betty and Claud married July 26, 1940 in Wickenburg, Arizona. They moved to Oregon 1950. After 1951, they moved to several different states due to work before finally settling in Oregon in 1956. They moved to Sweet Home in 1973.

Betty loved to crochet, complete puzzles, fish, and bowl. She enjoyed visiting casinos and playing pinochle and dominos.

She is survived by: her husband, Claud A. Poteet of Sweet Home; daughter-in-law, Merna J. Poteet of Sweet Home; grandchildren, Jaunita Taylor of Ellsinor, Missouri, Denise Volkers of Sweet Home, Carla Bickett of Troutdale, Joseph Poteet of Sweet Home, and Jessica Volkers of Sweet Home; eleven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Betty was preceded in death by her son, Boyd DeWayne Poteet.

A viewing will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Salem, Oregon.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
