Betty Jane O’Brien, 89, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away on the evening of Tuesday, February 16, in Lebanon from complications of Alzheimer’s. She was born in Estherville Township, North Dakota to Leon and Bertha (Hansen) Webster.

She married Lowell O’Brien on October 26, 1944 in Sydney, Montana. The couple moved to Oregon in 1948.

Betty occasionally worked as a field boss during harvest times in the cannery in Stayton, but spent much of her time raising her children.

She was a member of the Mennonite Church in Sweet Home. Betty enjoyed painting, gardening, and cooking family meals. She was dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy in life.

She is survived by sons Steven of Port Orford, Oregon, Gary of Forks, Washington, and Richard of Sweet Home; and daughter Deborah of Juneau, Alaska; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell, her son, Michael, and her daughter, Dawn.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 27, at Sweet Home Mennonite Church. Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s name to the Sweet Home Mennonite Church or your local hospice.
