Bernard “Bernie” Lutzie Castleberg, 82, of Brownsville, Oregon passed away Thursday, October 13. He was born in Maxville Prairie, Wisconsin to Lutzie and Ruth (Gibson) Castleberg.

Bernie attended college at Humbolt State in Eureka, California. He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Stuttgart in Germany for two years.

After Bernie’s service, he and Kathleen Burt eloped in 1957. They were both from Wisconsin but met at Mt. Sac High School years earlier.

Bernie worked at the Bureau of Land Management in Ukiah, California for 19 years.

He attended the United Methodist church in Halsey, Oregon and spent many mornings getting together with members of his church group for breakfast at Pioneer Villa.

Bernie is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Russell Allen and Karen Castleberg, and brothers, Robert, Roger, and Curtis Castleberg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Myra Castleberg, and sister, Cleo Anderson.
