Alice Gilliland, 72, of Springfield passed away Sunday at Riverbend Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon. She was born in Goshen, Oregon to Jack and Geraldine Rubby.

She grew up in Cascadia and lived most of her life in Oregon. Alice is a graduate of Sweet Home High School. She worked as a waitress, a wood molding mill worker, and a bank teller. Alice was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She loved traveling, being at the beach and clam digging, playing penny slots, camping, and working customer service.

Alice is survived by: her sons, Leon Ames of Scapoose and Ted A. Thomas of North Carolina; sister, Irene Kennedy of Sweet Home; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold J. Gilliland and James A. Thomas.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 16, at Gilliland Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
