A closed casket viewing will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 22, at Sweet Home Evangelical Church.
Wayne H. Slater, age 72, of Sweet Home passed away Tuesday. He was born in Foster, Oregon to Otto and Pearl (Dove) Slater.
Wayne was raised in Quartzville and Sweet Home. He went to Sunnyside school. In 1968, he moved to South Bend, Washington. He later returned to Sweet Home.
He owned Slater Logging with his brother, Caryl, until 1974. He worked at G&H Logging and Willamette Industries until her retired.
Wayne liked hunting, hiking in the woods, camping, casinos, clam digging, and spending time with and surprising his family.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lenora Slater of Sweet Home; daughters, Ileta LeBlanc of Sublimity and Terie McKay of Sweet Home; grandsons, Tyler Nicholson of Bremerton, Washington and Mitchell Nicholson of Scio; great granddaughter, Maleah of Bremerton; and siblings, Gertie Nye, Faye Albert, Max Slater, Jean Robinson, Doris Slater, Shirley Anderson, Caryl Slater, and Gayle Thomas.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Florence McClain, Bud Slater, Nellie Angel, Helen Chandler, Roy Slater, Dorothy Houck, and Don Slater.
