Vergie Ann Giddings, 77, of Sweet Home passed away Saturday at her home. She was born in Hardington, Nebraska to Leo and Jurritta (Shelton) Corson.

At a young age, Vergie moved with her family to Oregon. The family initially settled in Chiloquin, and later moved to Sweet Home.

In 1950, Vergie met the love of her life, Charles W. Giddings. They married December 7, 1950. They lived in the Sweet Home area and operated Pleasant Valley Feed together for many years.

With the exception of the family business, Vergie did not work outside the home. Rather, she dedicated herself to raising her family of two girls and three boys.

Later, Vergie and Charles became active in local gleaner organizations until health issues forced them to stop. Charles passed in 2004 leaving Vergie behind, after which she spent much of her time reading and watching ‘vintage’ television programs. She was especially fond of “I Love Lucy.”

Vergie is survived by: her daughters, Sherry Lynn Chuhay and husband Tom of Panama City, Florida and Debbie Hoover and husband Brad of Milwaukie, Oregon; sons, Mike and wife Gayle of Lebanon and Kelly of Snoqualmie, Washington; sisters, Bertha and Vera; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and her first great, great grandchild who recently joined the family.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles; son, Walter; sisters, Thelma and Shirley; and brothers, Gene and Roger.

Viewing will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

Memorial service will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 30, also at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

Final burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Lebanon.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
