Viewing will be 11:30 to noon Monday, April 6, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral will follow at 12:30 p.m. Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery.

Vera Parent, 91, of Albany, Oregon, formerly of Sweet Home, passed away Tuesday, March 31.

She was born in Aurora, Kansas; the daughter of William and Veda (Ramseyer) Collins.

At a young age, Vera moved to Laramie, Wyoming where she attended school. She graduated in 1942. She went on to attend Long Beach City College in California and worked for Douglas Aircraft, where she met Andrew Parent. They were married in Long Beach, California on December 2, 1944.

They lived in Payette, Idaho for a short time before moving to Sweet Home in 1947. Vera lived in Sweet Home until 2005 when she moved to Wynwood Assisted Living in Albany, and then to Clare Bridge Alzheimer’s Care in 2014.

Vera was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, walking, playing cards, and traveling. She traveled to all 50 states. She particularly liked spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Vera belonged to St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Sweet Home. She was a member of Royal Neighbors and belonged to a home extension group.

Vera is survived by: her children, Patricia Hall (Dale) of Albany, Peggy Banta (Jack) of Roseburg, Randy Parent of Albany, and Ricky Parent of Albany; grandchildren, Kimberly Bishop of Beaverton, Tracy Bishop of Diamond Bar, California, Kristin Slocum of Beaverton, and Brian Banta (Jamie) of Roseburg; three great grandchildren; and her sister, Shirley Lenderman of Seattle, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Joseph Parent (1995), and her brother, Everett Collins.
