Ronald William Robertson, 77, of Dallas (formerly of Sweet Home) passed away June 6th in Dallas, OR. He was born in Williston, ND to Venice John and Ruby (Rathbun) Robertson.
Ronald served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Infantry 1950-1953. He was a Korean War Veteran and was honorably discharged after sustaining a major injury to his right arm from mortar fire. He received the Purple Heart and was medically retired. Although doctors told him he would lose the reattached arm, he continued to perform his own physical therapy for an additional three years. With his grit, determination and numerous surgeries, Ron was able to keep use of his arm.
Ron moved to Deer Lodge, MT as a young child where he attended Deer Lodge schools and graduated from Powell County High School.
He met the love of his life, Darlene Kimmerly while living in Deer Lodge, and they later married in 1964. They lived in numerous cities in Montana and finally settled back in Deer Lodge in 1968 to raise their five children. After their children were grown, they moved to Sweet Home, Oregon in 1992 so Ron wouldn’t have to shovel anymore snow! Shortly after moving to Oregon, Darlene passed away leaving Ron after 30 years of marriage.
After being discharged from the Army, Ron worked numerous jobs including Montana State Prison, The Anaconda Copper Company and logging for numerous logging companies in Southwest Montana. Ron was an avid member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Ron loved the outdoors; camping, fishing & hunting with his family. He also was a very gifted painter. He painted everything from beautiful oil paintings of old homesteads to capture all of Montana’s history to painting houses and buildings as a part time job. He also painted the “P” on the water tower in Deer Lodge, Montana for the graduating class of 1988.
Ronald is survived by his children: Evelyn Thompson of Jefferson, OR, Ron Robertson Jr. of Dallas, OR, Wendy and husband Dwayne Shield of Walla Walla, WA, Russ and wife Missy Robertson of Butte, MT, Kimberly and husband Ryan Price of Helena, MT; brother LeRoy Robertson of Oregon City, OR; sister Rose and husband Reno Puccinelli of Anaconda, MT; grandchildren Dan, Rusty & Anita Powell, Lindsay Thompson, Anthony Robertson, Olivia Montgomery, Tara Robertson, Allan McGary, Russell Jr. & Jessica Robertson, Amanda Salle, Bryan Price; and four great grandchildren.
