Mary Louise Bauman-Mirhady passed away in Newport Beach, California on July 16, 2007 after several years of declining health.
Mary was born in Stayton, Oregon and was the daughter of Henry and Lera Snoddy. Four sisters and two brothers predeceased her.
Mary was married for 25 years to William Bauman, an Oregon lumberman, entrepreneur and philanthropist. They made their home in Lebanon, where they raised their family.
For the last 17 years Mary lived in both Portland, Oregon and Corona Del Mar, California. From 1990 she served as Chairman of The William H. and Mary L. Bauman Foundation. Here she provided leadership in supporting social and health agencies, the arts, educational institutions and faith based organizations.
Mary had a keen interest in contributing to organizations benefiting women and children. She provided assistance to the Dougy Center, Trillium Family Services, Boys and Girls Aid Society, The Salvation Army West Women’s Shelter, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital’s Childhood Diabetes program and OHSU-Casey Eye Clinic for autoimmune disease.
As a patron of the arts, Mary supported The Oregon Ballet, The Portland Art Museum, The Portland Opera, The Oregon Symphony and The Oregon Historical Society. Mary encouraged educational institutions like George Fox University, George Fox Evangelical Seminary and Lewis and Clark College with her interest and funding. A long time member of the Pacific Conference of The Evangelical Church, Mary was influential in providing major donor support for various conference programs in education, church extension, coaching, clergy assessment and natural church development.
Mary’s 77 years were filled with wonderful interests and activities that enriched her life and others. Of her many hobbies, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world, playing piano and oil painting. She loved watching the sunsets from her second home in Corona Del Mar with her husband, Farhad.
Mary is survived by her husband of 17 years, Farhad Mirhady, four children, Bruce Schwindt, Paul Schwindt, Gay Schwindt-Salo and Julietta Bauman-Freres, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her family, Mary leaves many friends who have benefited from her passion for life and thoughtful kindness. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
