Funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, December 27, at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel. Final burial will be at Klamath Memorial Park in Klamath Falls. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
Leonard Edward “Ed” Young, Jr., 61, of Sweet Home, passed away on Wednesday at his home. He was born in Concordia, Kansas to Dorothy Mae (Lambert) and Leonard Edward Young, Sr.
He lived on a farm and attended Cloud County’s one-room school. Ed’s family moved to Klamath Falls when Ed was a young boy. He attended Klamath County schools until he joined the Marine Corps in 1963. Ed served in the Vietnam Conflict and reached the rank of Sergeant. He was proud to be a Marine, and while in Vietnam, Ed received numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. He married Maryann Diano in 1964, and they raised four children. They later divorced. Ed married Diane Windom in 2001. His career history included Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company, General Telephone and Electronics, San Diego Gas & Electric, and Centurytel. Ed coached football, as well as Little League, Babe Ruth, and Allstars. He was well respected by players and coaches alike. His most cherished rewards were letters from parents and plaques from coaches. Ed also loved the outdoors and was an avid duck hunter and a golfer. Ed is survived by wife, Diane of Sweet Home; daughters, Angela Bucio and husband Daniel of Salt Lake City, UT, Denise Alves and husband Randy of Klamath Falls, Suzanne Frei and huband Nick of Las Vegas, NV; son, David Young and wife Kristie of Vacaville, CA; sisters, Barbara, Carolyn, and Deanna; brother, Ronald; stepchildren, Mike Windom and wife Sara of Central Point, Matt Windom and wife Krissy of Sweet Home; and 17 grandchildren. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, December 27, at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel. Final burial will be at Klamath Memorial Park in Klamath Falls.
