Jackson Charles Cron, 82, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Saturday. He was born in Piqua, Ohio to Kenneth L. and Grace I. (Ratchford) Cron.

After graduation from Piqua High School in 1949, Jackson attended Bowling Green State University and Cincinnati College of Embalming. He served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was honorably discharged. In 1953, he married Margene Kerns, the love of his life, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

In Ohio, Jackson was a funeral director and embalmer as well as a partner in the Cron Funeral Home in Piqua and Troy, along with his father and two uncles.

In May of 1977, Jackson, Margene and their youngest son, Joseph, moved west to Sweet Home. Over the next 30 years, Jackson worked for Bass-Mollett Publishers and other companies selling funeral, coroner, and cemetery supplies throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California.

Jackson was outgoing, friendly, and known for his genuine, big smile. He loved to talk and could pick up a conversation with anyone. Jackson was very patriotic. He raised and lowered the flag every day. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, current events, and always enjoyed a good debate. Jackson was also an inventor, song writer, and poet.

He was a member of the VFW and past member of the Rotary Club and Elks. Jackson was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the American Heart Association, and various other organizations.

Jackson was a wonderful, loving, generous husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by:his wife, Margene Cron of Sweet Home; daughter, Jill and her husband Jay Shenefield of McMinnville; son, Joseph and his wife Cathy Cron of Redmond; grandchildren, Luke, Dustin, and Jonathan Jacoby, Emmalee and Riley Cron, Jamin Cron, Andrea Alldridge, and Jackson Cron III; and seven great grandchildren. Jackson was preceded in death by: his son, Jackson C. Cron II, in March 1998; brother, Richard Cron; and his parents.
