Eleanor P. Barnes, 101, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Tuesday, November 7, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Junction City to George and Caroline (Kaping) Fawver.

She was raised on a farm in the Willamette Valley. She graduated from Independence High School and completed a one-year secretarial course at business college. She was married to Phillipe W. Barnes for more than 50 years before he died in 1987. She was a stay-at-home mom for all of her children’s growing-up years. During this time, she was always involved in PTA and any other activity that supported her children and husband.

In her fifties, Eleanor earned her real estate agent’s license and enjoyed a successful 15 years buying and selling homes. Eleanor and Phillipe liked to buy a house, remodel it, then sell. Eleanor always said she wishes they had started doing this earlier in their lives.

After the death of her husband, Eleanor became very involved in the Sweet Home Senior Center, serving as president, vice president, and board member for many years. During this time, she played Pinochle several times a week at the senior center. She continued to play Pinochle with her family, along with Jeopardy every night, until her death.

Eleanor is survived by children Phyllis Osborn-Smith and her husband, Gerald, of Sweet Home, Dan Barnes and his wife, Faye, of Sweet Home, and Carolyn Barnes of Daytona, Florida; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillipe; son Phillipe, Jr.; sister Bessie; and her parents.
