Donald G. Beebe, 89, of Sweet Home, died on Wednesday, December 2006. He was born in Gering, Nebraska, the son of Walter G. and Amy (Capper) Beebe. He attended schools in the Gering-Scottsbluff area.

He married Gretchen Wallace on November 13, 1937. In 1941 they moved, together with other family members, to Whittier, California.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.

After the war, Donald and Gretchen, along with his twin brother Douglas and his wife Edna, Gretchen’s sister, moved to Oregon. They moved as a family with both couples’ children and their parents Walter and Amy Beebe. They settled on a farm on Mountain Home Drive where the extended family lived and worked for the next 50 years.

Donald was also employed as a car salesman in the Sweet Home – Lebanon area. His last job before retirement was with Linn Gear in Brownsville.

After leaving the farm in 1994, Donald and Gretchen moved into Sweet Home, spending the last two years of their life together at the Wiley Creek Retirement Community.

Gretchen died in July of 2006. Since her death, Donald had been living at the Osprey Court Memory Care Residence in McMinnville.

Perhaps the strongest part of Donald’s personality was his deep and abiding love for Gretchen. The family takes great comfort in knowing they are now together again.

Donald is survived by his twin brother Douglas of Sweet Home, his children Michael Beebe of San Anselmo, California, and Tamara West of Portland, sister-in-law Betty Burry of Portland, nieces Teryl Putnam of Netarts and Tonia Beebe of McMinnville, and six other nieces; two grandchildren, Dana West and Dylan Anderson, three great-granddaughters and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Vade, his sister-in-law Edna, and his beloved wife Gretchen.

A private burial service was held Friday, December 22, led by Rev. April Hall Cutting. Memorial contributions may be sent to the United Methodist Church of Sweet Home, where Donald was a long-time member. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
