Darrell Ernest Goddard, 90, ended his earthly battle and entered the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 5, 2014, the day following his 52nd wedding anniversary.
Darrell was born June 13, 1923 in Bellingham, Wash. to Ernest and Kathryn (Bong) Goddard. He was a graduate of William McKinley High School in Pasadena, Calif. and attended Pasadena City College.
He served in the Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1945, when he was honorably discharged. He served in the South Seas, in French Polynesia, New Guinea and the Philippines. While in New Guinea, a photographer snapped a photo of him during a battle on Bougainville Island that later appeared in a Time-Life book on World War II.
After his discharge from the Army, he served in the Air Force during the Korean War, as a military policeman at Williams Air Force Base in Phoenix, Ariz.
Following his military service, he married Roberta “Bobbie” Roy on May 4, 1962 in California. They raised three children together as Darrell spent 30 years in the restaurant business, primarily as an owner and manager. The Goddards moved to Sweet Home in 2006.
He became a born-again Christian in 1962 and later participated in missionary efforts in the Philippines, Russia, Siberia and India. He was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church.
Darrell is survived by his wife Bobbie; sons Russell of Lilburn, Ga. and Matthew of Crockett, Calif.; a daughter, Kathryn Escott of Livermore, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Emily, Kyle and Shelby Escott, and Chandler Goddard.
