Darold “Rosie” Rozell, 73, of Lebanon passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Avamere Lebanon Rehab and Specialty Care. He was born to Harold and Vivian (Chaldek) Rozell in the family home on Clark Mill Road in Sweet Home.

He married Mary J. Hyde on August 26, 1956 in Sweet Home. From this union came three children: Darold DeWayne, Gary Alan, and Staci Ann.

After graduation in 1955 from Sweet Home High School, Darold went to work for Linn County Fire Patrol for six weeks. He then got a job as a chocker setter for Homer Moxley, a local logging company. Then he went to work for Willamette Industries in Sweet Home where he was known as the “Candy Man.” He always had candy in his pockets. He started pulling lumber off the chain, then moved to the plywood side, pulling veneer off the green chain. Later, he drove jitney on the graveyard shift. In October 1968, Darold passed the test for supervisor and became the graveyard green end foreman. In 1988, he went to at Foster as a graveyard supervisor. In 1997, he retired from Willamette Industries after 38 years.

In the fall of 1998, he and his wife, Mary, became “snow birds,” wintering in Yuma, Arizona. They enjoyed that until Darold started having serious health problems. They sold their home in Yuma, came back to Oregon, and bought a home in Lebanon.

Darold always loved to travel and would take a vacation every year. He loved to spend time playing poker, going to auctions, talking to everyone he met, and spending special times with his grandchildren.

Darold is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Mary; son, Gary Alan of Albany; daughter, Staci (Steve) Steinbacher of Sweet Home; grandchildren, Sara Coonrod of Portland, Emily and Jamie Steinbacher of Sweet Home, and Jessica Rozell of Eugene; sisters, Donna Brinlee, Darlene Steege, DeAda Myers, and DeLane Hugley, all of Salem.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Dorothy Brown; son, Darold DeWayne Rozell; and numerous other family members.

Viewing will take place 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, June 9, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 10, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Lebanon.
