Berlin Smith, 93, of Sweet Home passed away Saturday surrounded by his family. He was born in Waynesville, North Carolina to Curtis and Alice (Mull) Smith.

In 1947 he moved from North Carolina to Vader, Washington. He moved to Oregon from Vader, Washington in 1951 and settled in Sweet Home.

Berlin was a logger, road builder, and catskinner for various logging companies in the area.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, raising cattle, and reading.

Berlin is survived by: his wife, Pearl, of Sweet Home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Sandra Smith and Jerry and Cindy Smith of Sweet Home, and Burl and Kris Smith of Albany; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Greg Shaffer of Lebanon; sister, Elsie Brown of Keizer; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 7 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents; 11 siblings; and one granddaughter.

Viewing will be at noon Saturday, June 14, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm.
